New School Safety Requirement
Annual Inspections to Ensure Compliance.
Newest Ohio School Inspection Act
The Ohio Childhood Safety Act has been enacted, requiring all school facilities to perform thorough inspections of fire doors and openings. Schools must conduct annual inspections of these safety door assemblies by certified inspectors to ensure compliance.
A protective door assembly is:
• Doors in exit enclosures (all exterior doors and doors leading into a lobby with the exit)
• Doors with delayed egress or access control egress
• Doors with panic hardware or fire exit hardware (crash bars) for egress
• Doors with electrically controlled openers/closers
Mandatory Inspections
It is essential to examine all doors and openings to ensure compliance with the safety standards specified in Senate Bill 112.
Reporting to Fire Marshal
The school must share the results of this survey with their local fire marshal to show adherence to regulations.
