October plays hosts to Fire Prevention Week. It is a great time to review fire safety tips. To begin let’s go over a couple of fire facts as reported by the National Fire Prevention Association. Did you know that food is the leading item first ignited in a cooking fire? Most home fires start in the kitchen, and home fires peak between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, right around dinner time. Make sure you are extra careful when cooking. Now is a good time to make sure you have a family escape plan and it’s a good time to practice it. Additionally, check to see how old your fire extinguisher is and make sure you all know how to properly use it. If it is expired replace it. If you don’t have one, get one!
