If you had a fire at work or home, would you know what to do? Of course, grab a fire extinguisher, but what kind and how do you use it?
A fire extinguisher training program will increase the overall safety of employee both at work and at home.
As you may know, OSHA requires employers to provide education and training to employees where portable fire extinguishers are provided. Specifically, 1910.157 (g) states: “1910.157 (g) (1) Where the employer has provided portable fire extinguishers for employee use in the work place, the employer shall also provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with the beginning stages of fire-fighting.
1910.157 (g) (2) The employer shall provide the education required in paragraph (g) (1) of this section upon initial employment and at least annually thereafter.”
Employee safety is the first concern in a fire situation and the proper use of a fire extinguisher may be the key to providing a safe path of egress or accessing personnel in immediate danger.
